In plain English

FindLocalKC is a local business directory for the Kansas City metro. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We're a US-based service and this policy is written in plain English, not legalese.

What we collect from business owners

When you add or claim a listing, we collect your name, email address, and phone number so we can verify your ownership and contact you about your listing. We also collect business details like your address, hours, website, photos, and description. Your owner contact information (name, email, phone) is never displayed publicly on your listing page — only your business's public details are shown to visitors.

Payment information

If you upgrade to a Featured or Premium Spotlight plan, payment is handled by our payment processor. We don't store your credit card number or payment details on our servers — the processor handles that securely.

What we collect from visitors

Optional analytics help us understand public directory use. They stay off until their privacy configuration is verified and you select Analytics in Cookie settings at the bottom of any page and save your choices. Advertising has its own separate choice, off by default. Rejecting both is equally available. You can withdraw permission there at any time. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Essential security and directory operations do not depend on this choice.

Google Analytics 4

When enabled with your permission, Google Analytics 4 loads through Google Tag Manager to measure public page types and clicks on call, directions, website and social links, plus successfully saved public inquiries and listing submissions. A saved inquiry does not prove delivery, an owner response or a sale. Analytics providers may process IP addresses and browser/device data. Our event payloads do not include names, messages, email addresses, phone numbers, search terms, inquiry IDs, payment details or account information.

Microsoft Clarity

Microsoft Clarity can provide public-page heatmaps and session recordings after you allow analytics and its masking settings are verified. Page content is marked for masking. Analytics do not load on private account, administration, sign-in, checkout, claim or other excluded routes, or on URLs with query strings or fragments. Cookies and similar identifiers mean analytics should not be described as completely anonymous.

Meta Pixel

If you separately allow Advertising, Meta Pixel may use cookies, browser information and public page and conversion events to measure and personalize Facebook and Instagram ads. Allowing Analytics alone does not authorize Meta tracking. Rejecting or withdrawing Advertising keeps advertising consent denied. We do not include form answers, contact information, inquiry identifiers or payment details in these events.

Meta Conversions API

Server-side Meta Conversions API remains disabled. We do not send inquiry or payment details to Meta through this integration.

Cloudflare Turnstile

We use Cloudflare Turnstile on public forms (add-business, claim, contact, reviews, newsletter, and the Local Visibility Snapshot) to protect against bots and automated abuse. Turnstile runs a lightweight, privacy-friendly challenge in your browser and sends a token to our server for verification. It does not set tracking cookies and does not collect personal information about you.

Google Tag Manager

Google Tag Manager loads approved analytics tags only after permission, on eligible public pages. There is no tracking fallback when JavaScript is disabled. The analytics tags it manages may set cookies; the consent choice is stored in your browser.

CRM and marketing

When you submit a form — adding a business, claiming a listing, requesting an audit, or contacting us — we create or update a contact record in our CRM. We use this to respond to your request and, with your consent, to send occasional marketing communications about FindLocalKC features and offers. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send.

SMS communications and consent

If you provide your phone number, we may send SMS messages related to your listing, verification, or account. Standard message rates may apply. You can opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP to any message we send. We do not sell or share your phone number with third parties for marketing.

Data retention

We keep your contact information for as long as your listing is active or as needed to respond to your requests. Analytics data is retained for up to 24 months. If you close your account or remove your listing, we'll delete your owner contact information within a reasonable period, though we may keep business listing data (which is public information) for archival purposes.

Requesting deletion or correction

You can request that we delete your personal information or correct inaccurate data at any time. Email hello@findlocalkc.com and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also edit your own listing details through the owner portal at any time.

Owner contact information is never public

To be clear: the name, email, and phone number you provide as an owner are used only for verification and communication with you. They are never displayed on your public listing page. Only your business's public-facing details (address, hours, phone, website, photos, description) appear on the directory.

When you contact a business (lead sharing)

When you submit a message to a business through a listing's contact form, we send your name, email, phone, and message to that business's owner. If the listing is free or unclaimed, the owner sees only a masked summary until they upgrade or claim — your full contact details are unlocked only then.

The contact form includes an opt-in checkbox (on by default) that reads "Also send my request to up to 2 verified businesses in the same category and city." If you check it, we also deliver your request to up to two Featured or Premium listings in the same category and city so they can respond. We never sell or share your data beyond what is described here, and we never forward your details to a business that hasn't been verified.

Children's privacy

FindLocalKC is a business directory and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email hello@findlocalkc.com and we'll delete it.
