How FindLocalKC works

Trust is the whole point of a local directory. Here's how we keep listings accurate, verified, and honest across the Kansas City metro.

Where listings come from

Listings come from public business information and from owners who add or claim their business. We don't buy data from third-party brokers. Every listing starts with public details or an owner submission, and owners can take control of their page at any time.

Claiming and verification

When a business owner claims a listing, we verify ownership by sending a code to the phone number on file or to an email address on the business's own domain. For regulated categories — like legal, medical, and certain trades — we may also check professional licenses manually before publishing the claim.

What 'Verified' and 'Claimed' mean

Claimed means the listing owner has taken control of it on FindLocalKC. Verified means we've confirmed the owner's identity through the verification process above. The date a listing was last verified is shown on its page, so you know how current the information is.

How results are ordered

Premium Spotlight and Featured placements are paid positions, always labeled Sponsored or Featured. Free listings appear after paid placements. Payment never affects ratings, reviews, or editorial "Best of" selections — those are independent of advertising.

Reviews

Reviews are first-party only — collected directly on FindLocalKC, not copied from Google or Yelp. Business owners may reply to reviews but cannot delete them. We follow the FTC's fake-review rule and do not allow paid, incentivized, or fabricated reviews. If you spot a review that looks fake or violates our policy, let us know.

Report a problem or suggest a correction

Use the Suggest a correction link on any listing page, or send us a message through the contact page. We review every correction before publishing changes to a listing.

Re-verification

We re-verify listings every 180 days. If a listing's information can't be confirmed, it may be unlisted until the owner updates it. This keeps the directory fresh and prevents stale or closed businesses from cluttering search results.
